The Seed Library is wrapping up for the season Saturday, June 6.
If you need seeds, please go to your nearest branch before they’re gone. If you have seeds to donate, please hold on to them until the fall when we start collecting again for next season. Thank you for your ongoing support in making this program a continued success!

The Mississippi Mills Public Library is participating in LIP Lanark & Renfrew’s summer edition of Culture Connect, which consists of a series of activities that create a space for collective learning, celebration, and most importantly, FUN! It is an opportunity to celebrate beauty in diversity and the importance of culture and tradition.

Both Branches – starting June 8 
Take Home and Try:

  • Biblio Bingo – Use the Bingo card prompts to explore books, activities, and community connections at your own pace. Perfect patrons of all ages looking to discover something new!
  • Spill the Tea – Take & Make tea from around the world, while supplies last. Ask at the front desk.
  • Origami – Fold, create, and explore the art of paper crafting!
  • Welcome Rocks – Paint stones to greet visitors and decorate spaces. (Pakenham Branch only)

Looking for Crafty Kids 10+ to help us build an under-the-sea display! Drop-in at the Almonte Branch – Tuesday, June 9 from 4 – 5:30pm to create and make together. Have some snacks and earn those volunteer hours!

  • June 10 – Father’s Day Cards: Create a one of a kind card with fun layered designs and creative details.
  • June 13 – Fishbowl Light (Youth Workshop): Design clear vinyl stickers to decorate a glowing LED lights that will look just like a colourful fishbowls.
  • June 16- Engraved Slate Coasters: Design and engrave custom slate coasters that make a great gift or keepsake.
  • June 24- Graduation Photo Frame: Make a wooden frame designed to showcase student photos and celebrate graduation.
No experience is needed and workshops are free with a Mississippi Mills Library card. Children ages 10 to 17 must be accompanied by an adult for regular workshops. Family friendly Pride fun at MMPL! Drop-in. No registration required.
  • Pakenham Branch, June 12 from 3:30-5:00pm – Craft Your Pride with all the colours of the rainbow! All ages welcome.
  • Almonte Branch, June 19 at 11:00am – Join us for a special themed Storytime followed by a rainbow craft! For children aged 1-4 years accompanied by their adult. Older and younger siblings are welcome.

An Evening with Author, Maude Barlow Almonte Branch, June 18 at 6:30pm
Celebrate the launch of Earth for Sale: The Fight to Stop the Last Plunder of the Planet by the renowned environmental activist & author. Maude’s latest book serves as an urgent warning about the financialization of nature and the quiet rise of corporate control over the planet’s resources. Books will be for sale at this FREE event. Co-hosted by Mill Street Books.

Film in the Afternoon:  Top Gun  On June 24 at 1:00pm – Almonte Branch, take a walk down memory lane and come see this iconic, pulse-pounding 1980s film where the best of the best train to refine their elite Naval Fighter flying skills. When hotshot fighter pilot Maverick (Tom Cruise) is sent to the school, his reckless attitude and cocky demeanor put him at odds with the other pilots.  This is our last film for the season, so you won’t want to miss it! No registration required. Room capacity is 30 people. FREE popcorn!

LEGO Robotics Challenge (Intermediate/Advanced) with Gabe Braden is coming this June! Perfect for those age 12+ who have previously attended a LEGO Robotics camp or workshop. WE’RE HIRING: Student Library Page (Almonte Branch). Library Pages do a variety of tasks to help keep the library welcoming, organized, and running smoothly. Duties include shelving materials, helping maintain tidy public spaces, assisting staff with displays, completing daily closing routines, and providing friendly customer service to library visitors.
