Special Storytime for Children’s Mental Health Week
For Children’s Mental Health Week, we are collaborating with Open Doors Mental Health to bring you a special Storytime. Friday, May 8 at 11am – Almonte Branch. Stories and activities for 2- 5 year olds that focus on emotional development, facilitated by the team from Open Doors. No registration required! (Regular Baby Time programming at 10:00am).

DIY Bath Bombs – Pakenham Branch, May 8, 4-5pm

A Taste of Poem – A Workshop for Youth in Tasting and Writing. Looking for writers age 11 – 18 who are interested in taste as poetic inspiration.
Local pizza places have been invited to send in a pizza for a blind taste test. What does it smell like? What is the texture? What does it remind you of? Participants will write a poem for each taste – the favorites assembled onto posters that will be displayed at the local donating businesses.

Travelogue – Kenya: from the ground. A compelling journey in awareness and community. Travel with Almonte resident Arnie Francis and his travel friends as they discover how Canadians are making a difference in the lives of the poorest Kenyans. May 13 – Almonte Branch at 7:00pm, doors open at 6:30pm.

LEGO Portrait Challenge!!
Hey LEGO fans, fancy yourself a Master Builder? MMPL is hosting a LEGO Challenge! Join us on May 15, 3:30-5:00pm at the Pakenham branch to build a LEGO portrait of yourself, a family member or your pet! Winners will receive a prize and have their art displayed at the library. Participants aged 5+ can sign up, but spaces are limited. See you there!
Victoria Day Weekend – Closed Sunday & Monday
Many libraries close on the Sunday of a long weekend. Although not statutory holidays, MMPL staff choose to have these Sundays off.

FREE Seedlings! MMPL’s popular Seed Library program has partnered with the Pakenham Seedling Library, who is generously providing free seedings to the community. Available beginning May 21 at the Pakenham Branch, while supplies last. Give your garden a head start with a variety of vegetables, native wildflowers and herbs!

Makerspace Youth Workshop: String Art. We are hosting an exciting String Art session where you will use small pins and colorful thread to turn a blank board into a unique work of art.
Saturday, May 23 – Pakenham Branch from 10-11:30am. For your ages 10-18. No prior experience is necessary and no parental supervision is required.

May’s feature film is The Favourite, a dark comedy set in early 18th-century England, where the status quo at the court is upset when a new servant arrives and endears herself to a frail Queen Anne. No registration required. Room capacity is 30 people. FREE popcorn!

PA Day Family Drop In: Worm Composters! Friday, May 29 1-3pm at the Almonte Branch
A mix of science, sustainability and art – families are invited to come build and decorate a home worm composter using reclaimed 5 gallon buckets. We will supply the materials and information required to get you started on your home worm farm journey. Optional Red Wigglers available for first 12 families. Tasks include paper cutting, screen cutting, colouring , decorating and naming worms, so there will be something for all ages! Drop-in. No registration required.
