The last two weeks were a whirlwind of creativity & competition here at MMPL with LEGO Sumobots workshops!

One of our most popular summer programs, LEGO Sumobots is a free hands-on robotics workshop for ages 8+, where kids build and program their own sumo-bots using LEGO Spike kits and Scratch—an easy, block-based coding language.

With guidance from the amazing team at Steampunk Education, participants learned the basics of robotics and programming, then tested their bots in fun and friendly sumo-style battles! Huge thanks to Steampunk Education (on Facebook here) for their dedication to making STEM fun & accessible—and for capturing some great moments—these photos!

LEGO robotics is back this fall with the Libraries of Lanark LEGO Robotics Competition. Get ready for library vs. library action across Lanark County!

Schedule update! The next 3D Printing Meetup is SATURDAY, August 3 at 11:30am (instead of Sunday). If you’ve ever been curious about what you can create with 3D printing, we invite you to join us and learn more in a relaxed, welcoming environment. These meetups are usually held on the first Sunday of each month at 11:30 a.m. at the Almonte Branch – this Sunday the library is closed for the long weekend.

Looking for a cool & relaxing way to spend a hot summer evening? Join our friendly knitting & crocheting group at the Almonte branch, where the air conditioning is on and the conversation is warm. Whether you’re just starting out or have years of experience, everyone is welcome, beginners to experts. We provide yarn and needles, or bring your own! It’s a great chance to learn something new, share your skills, or simply enjoy creating in good company. Drop in any Thursday from 5:30 to 6:30 PM. We’d love to have you!

Meet Our Amazing EKF Literacy Tutors!

We want to give a BIG shoutout to two fantastic leaders, Tristan and Hannah!

Tristan, from Almonte, is in her third year leading one-on-one literacy tutoring for children in Grades 1 to 3 at the library! With a strong background in teaching, coaching, and mentoring, she brings incredible experience, teamwork, and energy to every session. She’s also an accomplished athlete who knows how to motivate and inspire young learners!

Hannah, from Pakenham, is spending her first summer at MMPL as a literacy tutor, but many of you will remember her from last year’s summer camp! She’s a creative spirit with a passion for English and art, and she brings her enthusiasm and talent to every day of tutoring.

With just a few weeks of summer left, we’re so lucky to have these two amazing tutors leading the way. Thank you, Tristan and Hannah, for all you do!

Almonte & Pakenham branches are open Saturday, 2 August 10am-2pm, but CLOSED Sunday, 3 August & Monday, 4 August
