MMPL is proud to loan musical instruments to our community, support accessible music education, and help build life skills through the joy and practice of music!
Guitars, ukuleles and violins are now available to borrow. Anyone with a library card in good standing can borrow an instrument. The loan period is three weeks, with an option of two renewals. To browse & reserve, visit MMPL’s online catalogue.
To help get you started, the library also offers a variety of method guides and manuals on how to play the guitar, ukulele, and violin – perfect for beginners and those looking to build their skills. Before you begin playing, we encourage you to learn how to properly care for the instrument. These helpful videos from Toronto Public Library cover the basics: violin care, and ukulele and guitar care.
Library staff extend a heartfelt thanks to Grant Montag for generously volunteering his time to fix & tune the guitars and to Jozsef Horvath, from the Ottawa Hungarian Folk Music School, for repairing the library’s violins and donating his time, skills, and equipment to the project. You can find Joe and learn more about his work at this Facebook profile.

The Mississippi Mills Film Society’s recent donation of $1400 funded supplies for the 2025 library summer camps – both branches!
