The library has two “kindergarten at-home literacy kits” with instructions and materials for activities to help build early literacy skills, as well as ideas for other home activities. These useful kits were put together by our 2021 summer Literacy Program Coordinator, Alyssa Stowe.
The kits each have two activities. Each activity is designed to take about 15-20 minutes to complete. You can pick up the kits in paper form at either Almonte or Pakenham branches, or you can download them here:
At-home Kindergarten Literacy Kit 1 is designed for children who have not yet learned to break words into syllables, and who are learning their consonant sounds.
At-home Kindergarten Literacy Kit 2 is designed for children who can break words into syllables, but have not yet learned to break words into sounds, and who are learning their vowel sounds.
The kits are also listed in the Library of Things at the library website.
